The Bachelorette

I have to come clean and admit I totally got into this season’s Bachelorette.  I saw the ending of DeAnna’s stint on the Bachelor when she got jilted by Brad who came off more to me as “duh-boy”.  Then I saw her on Ellen where they informed her that she was the next Bachelorette.  Coupled with the fact that my husband had quite a bit of traveling to do the past few month and that most of it fell on Mondays, after putting our son to bed for the evening, I sat down, started surfing the TV and voila…I got hooked.  I think DeAnna is adorable and actually think we would be friends if we knew each other.  And now that she chose Jesse, I think those two would hang out my husband and I considering my husband’s love of extreme sports (www.fierce.com)!!!  So back to biz…the last Bachelorette I watched in full was Trista and Ryan (maybe I’m a sucker for the underdog?) but after the whole k-trillion dollar wedding extraveganza broadcast on Primetime televsion, I kinda got turned off.  Now that the winner of DeAnna’s heart has been revealed and this season has come to its conclusion, I have to say that this was one of the best seasons yet.  I personally thought I would have chosen Jason but after the visit to her hometown, I could understand why she chose Jesse.  I too fell in love and married someone that I thought “wasn’t my type” but boy was that a misconception.  Ten years later, a beautiful little boy, realizing our dreams…showed me how close-minded I really was to have such a stringent view as to my “type”.

So anyway…got off on a tangent…what I think I find hilarious about the Bachelorette more than the Bachelor is seeing all these guys competing for the love of the same girl.  I would say that all the guys are attractive in their own way, with exception of the occasional weirdo or smart-ass, and I can’t imagine they can’t find a date.  Then again, maybe they pack their bags on a dare or just for shits and giggles as an old Cleveland friend of mine, Brian Hrouda (photo right), did when he was a suitor of Trisa Sutter (then Rhen).  He was one of the most sought after guys all through school so when I saw him on the show, I knew he was just looking for his 15 seconds of fame…which is all he got because he was the one that told Trista he wasn’t interested in staying.  It was obvious to me that when he found out that he didn’t need to be as desperate as he was coming off to be, he exited stage left!  Good going Brian!

Regardless, the season was entertaining.  My husband’s father is 100% Greek so all the references were familiar and fun.  Although Eric, the one Greek suitor was completely obnoxious and gave me the eebie-jeebies and I’m glad he got the boot!  Graham, while attractive, is every woman’s worst nightmare with his lethargic attitude and lack of ability to express himself.  I actually felt bad for Jeremy although he knew what he was signing up for.  Jason changed my opinion of single men with children.  And I think those are the only ones worth commenting about…proving the rest were booted off appropriately…which leads me back to my comment that DeAnna and I would be friends……(exhale)…

Oh…one last comment:  I cracked the hell up when they visited DeAnna’s hometown and Jessie actually nugged DeAnna’s YaYa and then “blew it up” afterwards.  I rewound that a couple of times crying laughing as I envisioned me doing that to my fater-in-law when we first met.  Although my father-in-law (Pops) IS and always will be TOTALLY NUGG-able !!!
